It is with heavy heart that I must announce that Styling Android is on indefinite hiatus with immediate effect. Throughout 2021 I have been having to deal with increasing levels of piracy. I have been spending increasing amounts of time dealing with this. It has simply become too much.

Turning Points
I am fortunate to have had a long, varied, and enjoyable career thus far. However, in the beginning, it took a little while to get things on track. I have written previously about how I decided against going on to study at University or College. In this post, I’ll explain a bit about the role…
Piracy
I never thought I’d have to write this post, and it saddens me that I now have to. I’ve been writing Styling Android for over 10 years, and I’ve posted every week in that time. I suspended posting for 6 weeks due to contractual reasons, and that’s the only break. I wrote about this in…
Ten Years
“One of the building blocks of styling and theming Android apps is understanding drawables”. Thus began the first ever post to Styling Android which was published on 28th March 2011. Confidence
Confidence is both a strange and fragile thing. It is strange because there are two sides to it – how others might perceive you as being confident; and how confident you actually feel. I’m pretty sure that most people reading this will have had their confidence broken or damaged at some point so will not…
Qualifications
People are often surprised if I tell them that I do not have a university degree. I’m not someone who achieved a degree in a subject unrelated to computer science and then moved in to the field later in life. I chose not to go to university. In this non-technical post I’ll explain why I…
Burnout
Recently I saw a tweet by Britt Barak stating that we don’t talk about burnout enough and she’s also recorded a podcast about it. This made me think about my experiences with burnout and it made me wonder if sharing my experiences might help others who are unfortunate enough to be experiencing it as well.
